Policy Updates

Face of a Regulation Slaying SuperHero
You seem stressed...
I wear many hats (and capes). One of my most excruciating tasks is staying current on the ever-changing nature of policy and current interpretations of that policy. I am the designated Regulation Slaying Superhero at the slaughterhouse.

#BangHeadHere

FSIS issues Notices and Directives. These are official forms of communication that give instructions & procedures or information on regulation compliance in the plant.

When a regulation is changed or issued a Directive will follow. Directives give IPP (Inspection Program Personnel) instructions on enforcing and implementing the regulation. These are not regulations in and of themselves but are used to clarify (ha.ha.ha....) how the inspectors are to enforce the regulation in the plant. These Directives have an indefinite duration.

Notices are temporary instructions (no longer than one year) with an implementation and expiration date. After expiration, these may be re-issued to reflect the current policy direction at that time. They are sometimes used as short term instructions while Directives are being developed. Notices provide a seasoned plant with insight to potential regulations to come. These are fun...

That's just the tip of the iceberg on what a plant has to keep current on. Short of boring the smithers out of you, we'll leave it at that for now. I think I need a drink.

A love note to our farmers..

Just staying current and in compliance with policy and regulation is a full time job by itself. Our return calls to you may be slower. It may take us days to respond to your emails. You may want to break up with our voice mail. I understand. Cut the small slaughterhouse some slack. We've got our hands full. We're doing the best we can with the time we have. It's not personal. We're totally into you. Our mistress, Ms Regulation, is a jealous sort you see. She's all up in our business keeping us from doting on you the way we'd like too.

Yours Truly,
Unapologetic Slaughter'isa
